Allegan Competitive Elite Soccer A Member of Grand Valley Soccer Association
|
May 9, 2008
Meeting called to order at 6:10 p.m. by President, Dave Root, at Allegan Pizza Parlor.
Attendance: Dave Root, Teresa Creech, Bill Creech (late), Kim Hays, Richard Centala,
Missy Root, Connie Urton, Brett Paige. Special guest: Randy Hays
The March and April minutes were presented by Teresa Creech. Motion was made by Kim
Hays to approve the minutes as presented. Seconded by Missy Root. Motion carries.
The treasurer’s report was presented by T. Creech, interim treasurer. The checking account
has a current balance of $1,427.10. The certified collection letter sent to Rosa Solis was
returned unopened. It was decided that T. Creech will send another letter via regular mail.
When discussing team expansion, Dave Root mentioned that Dave Vandyke of Fennville has
expressed interest in entering a U9 Girls team under ACES. Brett Paige told the board that it
would benefit tryout turnout if we could visit the soccer fields on game days to watch/evaluate
which players would fit well with ACES and also talk with the coaches. We could also hold a
free soccer skills clinic to try to recruit players. It was also suggested that we put an ad in the
paper to recruit coaches (do coach interviews at tryouts). Names for possible coaches: Stuart
Pickin and Mike Kenny.
We may need to find a new Referee Assignor for fall 2008. Phil Baker is our current assignor;
however, Doug Beauregard was actually “getting” the refs. Baker is a member of Kalamazoo
Kingdom and may not be on board next year due to the conflict that has arisen between
Beauregard, Paige and Kingdom. Paige will look into when GVSA coaches and referee clinics
will be held. D. Root asked if someone would look into what it takes to be certified as a referee
assignor. Paige volunteered to look into it for us. It was agreed that the club would reimburse
anyone who completed coaches or referees training/certification classes on behalf of ACES. A
commitment from the individual, to work with ACES, is also required. Referees will need to
purchase their own uniform.
Fundraising ideas were discussed. D. Root tried to call D. Vandyke today with regards to
participating in a Texas Hold-em poker tournament. The Roots are still pursuing the Harley
raffle. When they have time, they will go to Freemont Harley and inquire with them about a
raffle-fundraiser.
D. Root will attend the tryouts at Kenyon Park on June 16 to keep integration between all ACES
tryouts.
Paige mentioned that most soccer clubs broker an agreement with a brand to purchase
uniforms for two years. This allows cost to be kept down by using the same uniforms for a two-
year span. At tryouts it was decided to post a breakdown of the fees we charge. Also consider
using the phrase “Additional fees for tournaments”.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Pizza Parlor at 6:00.
A motion to adjourn was made by T. Creech, seconded by M. Root; meeting adjourned at 8:15.
