Allegan Competitive Elite Soccer (ACES)
Minutes – February 19, 2007, Special Meeting

Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m., 2007 at North Ward gym

Attendance:  Dave Root, Missy Root, Deb Jennings, Teresa Creech, Lori Drozd,
Also in attendance:  Bill Creech, Scott Evans, and Steve Tibbitts

The meeting opened with a public welcome and brief introduction presented by
President Dave Root.  He went on to explain the differences between competitive and
recreational soccer.  A brief overview the Grand Valley Soccer Association, of which
ACES is a club under, was also given.  Dave also touched on the cost, the number of
games to be played (8 minimum) and the need for parent participation and support.

Scott Evans, Allegan High School soccer coach, was introduced.  He spoke on the
benefits a competitive soccer club would have on any high school program.  He went
on to say many of the high school teams in our division (II) have access to a club or
premier level soccer program and that gives them an edge over those that don’t. It
shows on the field and in the score of the game.  He emphasized the physical level of
high school soccer is at least three steps up from a recreational soccer program.  A
competitive soccer club often bridges the gap.

Steve Tibbitts, founding member of the Allegan AYSO program, was invited to speak
on the community benefits of club soccer.  Steve spoke of expanding on what AYSO
has established in the community.  By filling in the gap between recreational soccer
and high school soccer, you can keep kids from going to another sport.  Quite often
kids will try other sports because they don’t have an opportunity to continue at a
competitive level with soccer.  Steve also stated that consistency in any program will
only make the sport and players stronger.

Teresa Creech spoke about the upcoming fund raisers.  ACES will be holding a pop
can/bottle/recycle drive on Saturday, March 17th, at Village Market in Allegan.  A sign
up sheet was passed around for volunteers.  ACES will also be hosting a soccer
tournament June 1, 2, and 3 at the Sports Complex.  Many volunteers will be needed to
make this a successful fund raiser.

A question and answer session followed.

The meeting concluded at 8:05 p.m.
